WATAUGA RIVER
Midges, BWO\’s and sulphurs are the main patterns you need to imitate on the Watauga. Sizes 18-24 midge patterns will work well. Make sure you have some zebra midges in red, black and olive, real meals, ginny midges, rainbow warriors, real meal nymphs, WD40\’s and small olive pheasant tails. Watch for some BWO’s coming off when the weather is right (cloudy). Have some egg patterns as well and drop small olive or black midge nymphs off the egg.
THE HOLSTON RIVER
Sulphurs, blackflies, midges and BWO\’s are the main bugs to focus on on the Holston. Be sure to take some black fly larvae, two tone hunchbacks, rainbow warriors, zebra midges in black, olive, micro mayflies, ginny midges, rainbow warriors, olive soft hackles and sprout emergers all in 18-22. Olive pheasant tail and Sulphur comparaduns, para sulphur and big horn sulphurs will work well on top. Sulphurs have been coming off in late morning through the afternoon.
