Stream Report for March 10, 2010
***ALL OUR LOCAL DELAYED HARVEST STREAMS HAVE BEEN STOCKED FOR MARCH!!
STONE MOUNTAIN STATE PARK AND THE MITCHELL
Last weeks stocking have made a world of difference in the fishing over the past week. Water tepms are still on the cool side but the fishing has been good with the warmer weather. Prince nymphs, psycho prince nymphs, bloody mary\'s, egg patterns and copper johns all in sizes 14-16.Continued warmer weather will hopfully provide some dry fly action. ***Poachers ruin the delayed harvest season for the rest of us. If you see someone taking fish please do everyone a favor and report it. Call 1-800-POACHER.
HELTON CREEK
Helton was stocked as well last week and the reports have been great. Cold water temps from snow melt but the fishing has been consistently good. Prince nymphs, tellicos, pheasant tails, bloody mary\'s and the red ass all in size 14-16 are working.
WILSON CREEK (DELAYED HARVEST)
Full of fish and fishing well. Use many of the patterns listed above and always be open to trying something different
every now and then. These fish see lots of flies so a different look can be a good thing.
If you haven\'t been up to this creek set some time aside this spring to go.
SMITH RIVER
The lower section through town was stocked on 2/19 and the fishing has been good since then. Small nymphs fished under a indicator will produce. Getting a drag free drift is the key. Ginny Midge (20),Pheasant tails (20), micro mayfly (20) in brown and WD-40 in olive (20) and, as always, pheasants tails in 18-22. Also try dropping a small nymph off the back of a larger nymph like a stonefly or soft hackle.
SOUTH HOLSTON (TN)
You need to have plenty of zebra midges in your box as well as any small dark or olive and/or brown nymphs. Ginny Midge (20-22), Pheasant tails, WD-40\'s, micro mayflies and brassie\'s. Make sure you have some egg patterns as well. Rainbow warriors, pheasant tail, WD-40\'s and midge larva. You may see good numbers of midges and baetis during the middle part of the day.
WATAUGA RIVER (TN)
Most of what works on the Holston will produce on the Watauga. Take some strike indicators and split shot to fish bead head nymphs such as pheasant tails, micro mayflies and hare\'s ears in size 18-20. You can\'t have too many egg patterns. Soft hackles in olive and yellow will produce in the riffles.
