One of the most effective ways to learn the sport of fly-fishing is to take a class that concentrates on teaching students the proper techniques and methods that are essential to fly-fishing. The Orvis fly-fishing school is the most comprehensive program in the world and The Green Drake is proud to offer this program to you. No other program covers such a wide variety of necessary information to give you the confidence to continue on your own. Our instructors are expert fly-fishermen and will give you a good working knowledge of the sport. If you have always wanted to try but never had the time, now is the time! If it's something you've only recently discovered, now is the time to learn more!
With the attention of our expert instructors you will learn:
- Casting techniques
- Essential knots
- Choosing tackle and equipment
- Entomology
- Proper Fly selection
- How to read water
- How to play, net and release fish safely
The Green Drake offers two different school formats:
Smith River School (Bassett, VA.)
A more detail oriented class that takes place on the banks of the Smith River. Traditional Old South ambiance in a very unique setting. This school begins with a two hour Friday evening class followed Saturday by an all day excursion on the Smith River. All equipment is provided as well as lunch and all day beverages. If you are serious about learning the sport or want to expand you existing knowledge this school is for you!
- Tuition is $195.00 per student.
- School limited to 6 students.
- Spring 2003 Dates: September 25th & 26th and May 9th & 10th
